Our Story
Our History
HighWray was originally a family home. In 2008, it was bought by Janet Shaw, a nurse who spent her career caring for others — first in the NHS, then in private nursing care. Janet had one aim: to create somewhere that felt less like a care facility and more like a true home.
Alongside her husband Graham, Janet restored the property from the ground up, guided by a simple set of beliefs: that residents deserve a genuine home-from-home environment, a dignified and respectful quality of life, and care delivered with real compassion. That philosophy shaped everything about HighWray, and it still does today.
After 18 years leading the home, Janet retired in 2026, handing HighWray to her daughter Lauren. Lauren's connection to HighWray goes back to the very beginning — she worked here as a carer in 2008, before building her own career in the NHS. She now runs the home alongside Registered Manager Sarah, and together they bring 47 years of combined NHS experience.
HighWray has always been a family-run home. That hasn't changed.

"HighWray was always more than a care home — it was, and always will be, a home."
Janet Shaw, Founder

How We Care
At HighWray, residents' happiness, wellbeing and care are at the heart of everything we do.
We believe in person-centred care — taking the time to truly get to know each resident as an individual, and working closely with residents and their families to build a personalised care plan that's genuinely reflected in day-to-day life.
We also understand how much continuity matters. Our established, experienced team gives residents the consistency and familiarity that helps them feel safe, settled, and truly at home.
